Vattenvirveln

En virvel har alltid formen av en skruv. Vattnet tar sig ner mot centrum genom att följa skruvens gängor. Det är samma sak med en tornado, alltså en luftvirvel.

I naturen kan virvlar bildas på många sätt. Bland annat när två vattenströmmar med olika riktning möter varandra. Det är friktionen mellan dem som gör att det bildas virvlar. Virvlar kan också bildas när vatten rinner ut genom ett hål som ligger en bit under vattenytan. I virveln skapas ett ”rör” där luften från botten passerar upp medan vattnet rinner ned. Då är det friktionen mellan det strömmande vattnet och rörets sidor som gör att virveln uppstår. Det sker när du tömmer ut vattnet ur ett badkar eller handfat.

Om man tar hänsyn till jordens rotation har virvlar på norra halvklotet en tendens att böja av åt höger och röra sig medsols. Dessa krafter är mycket svaga och motverkas ofta av andra krafter.

The water vortex

A vortex is created when the water is set in motion. The water i pushed against the sides. A hole is created in the middle and a vortex appears.

A vortex always has the shape of a screw. The water moves down towards the center by following the threads of the screw. The same thing happens with a tornado: an air vortex.

Vortexes can be created in nature in many ways. For example when two streams of water with different directions meet each other. It is the friction between them that creates vortexes. Vortexes can also appear when water runs out of a hole that is a placed a bit under the water surface. In the vortex a “tube” is created where the air from the bottom moves up while the water runs down. It is the friction between the streaming water and the sides of the tube that makes the vortex appear. This also happens when you empty a bathtub or sink.

If you take the rotation of the earth into consideration vortexes on the north side of the planet have a tendency to bend to the right and move clockwise. These powers are very weak and are often neutralized by other powers.
